We had the good fortune of connecting with Cairon Crews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cairon, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I am inspired by true genuine people with pure hearts and intentions, who have nothing to gain and look for nothing to gain in return by helping others. Whether it be by helping someone monetarily, mentoring them, giving them words of encouragement etc. In my lifetime I’ve seen people who were very well off financially help people that had absolutely nothing. To see how that can impact someone’s life is one of the best feelings ever- at least to me anyways. I love to see people getting blessed. I love to see people helping people. I love helping people. So to see people who have the heart to help someone, knowing that that person can never repay them and they don’t even care; that truly inspires me. It inspires me and motivates me in wanting to become a better me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others and me simply being me. There is no other me. The God in me, and I can’t be duplicated. I have a true desire and passion for what I do, and that is helping people. As I’ve said before; I love helping people. I’m genuine and the youths I’ve encountered and different people I’ve had the privilege to be able to talk have let me know that my heart and spirit is true and genuine. I got to where I am today by simply listening to God and allowing Him to lead me in everything that I do. I do nothing without His guidance. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am, because I didn’t always like to listen to God, I wanted to do things my way, but once I got tired of fighting I had no choice but to give in. Lol. I overcame all of my challenges by simply listening to God. The lessons I’ve learned along the way is you can’t do everything on your own. Everyone needs someone; especially when you’re building a brand. You’re going to need the help. You don’t know everything, and there is always going to be someone that knows just a little bit more than you. If you’re the smartest person amongst your tribe then you need to select a new set of people to be around. Lol. I want everyone to know that YLOT has started something great and what has started is only the beginning. We have many more lives to touch.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A great place for good food and drinks would be Flood’s. The atmosphere is awesome. They always have live entertainment, and it’s never dull or boring, and the staff is super friendly. This is one of my favorite spots to go to-always a great time. A place to go to just to eat would be Joe Louis’ Southern Kitchen. You may have to wait in line a while sometimes, but the food is worth the wait. My favorite meal to here is their shrimp and grits. Omg. Absolutely amazing. For all other fun things to do, I would probably go visit the Motown Museum and Greektown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can think of a few people that deserve a special shot out. I wanna give a huge shot out to Andre (Dre) Kohn, his wife, Brittany Kohn, Gabrielle Lewis, TJ Tijani, JD Winters and Greg Watkins. When I first started my nonprofit, I’ll never forget that myself and Greg went to a networking event, and that is where we met Dre.,He was awesome. Very laid back, humble smooth and chill guy. We soon found out that Dre had a nonprofit also along with TJ, and they were looking for a nonprofit to collaborate with. Once I had a talk with Dre and explained to him the vision that I had to get my first event (Bridging the Gap Summer Camp Houston) kicked off the ground, he was all aboard. From there he introduced us to an amazing group of people that were all each individually awesome at what they brought to the table- and I can’t thank them enough. Some brilliant minds I must say. They definitely made mine and Greg’s job just that much easier. Everything came together perfectly, Bringing the Gap Summer Camp as one of the best events we (YLOT) , have hosted thus far. I couldn’t be more grateful for the people mentioned above.
