We had the good fortune of connecting with Zach Berg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Zach, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind the success of Mongers’ Provisions, is genuine connection. We are living in an increasingly siloed lives. With the world focusing on frictionless transactions, we have a lot of success in slowing things down. We want our customers to interact with us. We want to connect you to the people and places where your food comes from.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been lucky to work in the food world for since I was 12 years old. I have cooked, cleaned, baked, and cheese mongered. The industry has treated me well and I feel lucky to spend my days sharing food and stories with people. What strikes me as the most interesting is that the path I was walking was impossible to understand as I walked it. I never felt like I was going in one solid direction.

I often felt like I was chasing my own entertainment at the expense of my own financial interests. But now years later it seems like it all lead to somewhere that made sense. I guess that is part of growing up. We can not know the future.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is dedicated to my business partner Will Werner. He and I have grown up together and been friends for the last 29 years or so. For the last 6 years we have taken a dream into reality. We have had a lot of help along the way. Zingerman’s community of businesses (where I got into the specialty business) has also continued to be a tremendous resource for help as well as insperation. Lastly I would like to thank my Uncle Elliott Baum. Elliott is the principle behind Blue Ribbon Restaurants in a franchise of Famous Dave’s Bar B Q’s. He has been in the hospitality industry for most of his life and has always been a major inspiration and mentor in my career.
