We had the good fortune of connecting with Alfonso Civile and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alfonso, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Perseverance and commitment to not giving up. I believe those two factors along with heart are keys to success for anyone be it an individual or a brand. You must stay the course, you must not give in to thoughts that make you want to quit. The road to success is not an easy one and not a short one. Most success happens over the course of many years.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
M y name is Alfonso and I sing for the band Heartsick out of Lansing, MI. We have been a band for over 8 years but our bass player, guitarist, and my self have been in this same band under a different name since it started 23 years ago.

Currently we have some really great things happening around us but the most exciting one so far is our upcoming tour with National Recording artists Taproot. To get opportunities like the Taproot tour took many many years, We have been grinding away playing any conceivable show we could. Continuously recording and releasing music as well as keep a very busy tour schedule. It has not been easy and being an artist rarely is ever easy. The amount of hurdles and challenges you face are too long to count but they all start and end with being able to finance your art and balancing life so you can pay your bills but continue to pursue your dreams and passion.

As the years have gone by we have learned how to manage our selves, our brand, and our goals and expectations. I think that with all that learning and failing it has helped us be successful in how we operate today. With every mistake and every financial loss we learned what we needed to do to get it right. Failures were teaching moments and never really failures only missed opportunities that we could expand on next time.

What I would like the world to know about us most is that we are normal everyday guys who have made a lot of sacrifices to end up where we are today but at the end of the day we are normal people and just like any normal person out there, we had to dig deep to find out version of success in this life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Michigan is such a nature hub for many as well as a beer state. I would absolutely take them to see Pictured rocks, The UP, The mackinaw Bridge. Take them to eat at Stella’s burger joint in Grand Rapids and Yesterdog, and then make a day trip to Detroit to see the historic sites there in the downtown district and cap it off with a show at one of the historic venues like The Masonic Temple.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely William and Heather Felch the duo who owns the production and creative visual collective WOMBATFIRE. As well as Shane Pitmon our manager of 1887 Media.
