We had the good fortune of connecting with Camea Franklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camea, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
The book that I read that has had the greatest impact on me is the 12-week year. This book was written to assist people in meeting their personal or business goals by consolidating and breaking up the goals for the year in increments of 12 weeks. This book has catapulted my growth and has assisted me greatly in meeting my goals. I like it because it comes with an accompanying plan list, and tactics, and encourages an accountability partner. I like the book so much that I have implemented its use in my business with my contractors and employees. I would suggest anyone who needs to be more productive in their business or personal lives take a look at the New York Times Best Seller The 12 Week Year by Brian P Moran.

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart in my industry is my transparency and dedication to clients. I am termed as the “most trusted tax professional”. This is because try my best to educate the individuals and businesses I serve so that they know the most they possibly can about their situation. Sometimes this can come back to bite you at times, because the information may go over the heads of people. To combat this, you reword the information and put it in bits and pieces so that it is easy to understand for the regular US taxpayer who just wants to make sure they are doing the right thing and not overpaying in tax.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a history and love learning, so my itenerary would be full of visiting historical places in the area. First, I would schedule and have us take the Trolley tour that tours all historical and important places of the Detroit area. I would then set time aside for us to visit the Detroit Historical Museum and the Motown Museum. I would make sure to have my friend visit Southwest Detroit for the best mexican food in the area as well as visit certain downtown venues in Midtown and Downtown Detroit to have a great time such as the Fox Theatre and the Music Hall. I think it is interesting also to visit neighborhood venues such as Theresa’s Bar on the West side of Detroit and the speak easy in downtown Detroit called Sid Gold’s Request Room where you can sing your favorite karaoke song to live piano. Bert’s Marketplace in Eastern Market is also great for karoake, soul food and concerts the showcase local and regional talent. On Saturday, we would also visit the market in Eastern Market to find some great local items.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In addition to the 12 Week Year that I discussed, I would like to recognize my first manager as a person that positively impacted me. Jean Smith, was my manager at a credit union that I worked for when I was in my teens and early twenties. This was one of my first jobs and Mrs. Smith taught me how to conduct myself in a corporate environment, how to be responsible for your actions and started me on learning about finances. She has gone on to be with the lord and I will never forget and always appreciate her guidance.
