Meet Steven Lewis | Painting Contractor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steven, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There were so many thoughts behind the reason I decided to start my own buisness. I was involved in a accident on the jobsite. I had a man lift come down on me breaking my ribs and damaging my shoulder. The company I worked for decided shortly there after that I no longer held any value to them. There was no phone calls asking how I was or if there was anything they could do to help after I devoted thirteen years to the betterment of the company. As I recovered from my injury and the depression that set in over the course of two years I came to the realization that I was no more than a number to them. The company I worked for didn’t value their employees or even the customers that support them it was all about a financial gain. So I set out to change this industry for the better. I decided I was gonna create a painting buisness that’s sole purpose was to offer a quality service at an affordable rate to everyone that values their customers and every employee or sub contractor. Not only that but to give back to the community as much as possible. Every single customer we treat like family. We work hard to be an honest, quality, and affordable service who truly cares.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Something that sets us apart from other painting companies is the passion for decorating and the personal connections we make with every customer. Not only that but I am on every job personally to ensure the customers needs are met. I am very proud that I am able to give back to the community as much as possible with helping families down on their luck, helping to support athletic programs, and school supplies. I hope I will continue to grow and be able to help even more. Starting my career as a painter didn’t come easy. I started the first five years of my career as an apprentice. I crawled around on my hands and knees puttying sanding and taping before I was even allowed to touch a paint brush. This training process was to ensure I understood that proper preparation was crucial to a quality job. Once I hit the five year mark I was finally able to begin learning how to paint. There is alot of time that goes into learning how to use a paint brush to get crisp lines and evenly lay of paint. After my ten year mark I finally made it to learning more complex practices such as wallpaper, wall coverings, murals, staining, films, and other specialized coatings. It wasn’t easy but with the help and guidance of my mentors I was able to overcome. I have learned alot following my passion for painting. The biggest thing I have learned is hardwork and determination is key to every aspect in our lives. If I had to pick something for the world to know about me and my brand it would be how much passion/love I pour into all of my work and how much I truly care for everyone.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of the most fun, interesting, places to check out in my area would be Lakeside Inn in Sandlake for breakfast. Forager in Howard City for drinks and dinner. The Imax in Grand Rapids for movies. Fredrick Meijer Garden in Grand Rapids. As well as walking around downtown Rockford to visit all the little shops and the river.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
They’re so many people who have played a pivotal role in the success of my buisness. My mother and father played an important role training me how to be a quality decorator/painter. As well as every customer the supports my buisness and its core values.
