We had the good fortune of connecting with Delaney Cronk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Delaney, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued tattooing because I have been drawn to this form of art since I was very young. I grew up always knowing I wanted to do something where I could use my artistic abilities and draw every single day of my life. That passion for art eventually led me to the world of tattooing, where I fell in love with the form of art that can be put onto someone’s body.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I have always been drawn to black and gray realism in art, which I hope to lean towards in my tattoo career. It was a challenge for me to achieve a tattoo apprenticeship, and required years of developing my portfolio and reaching out to shops to find out if they had any apprenticeship positions available. I always knew I would eventually be able to find a tattoo apprenticeship, but I was prepared and willing to put in a lot of work to get to that point. I want the world to know that I am very passionate about every piece of art I create, and I want to master each style of art that I attempt. I also just want to create tattoos for people that they are proud to have on their bodies. One lesson I have learned through my art and tattooing career is that you definitely will make mistakes, and you have to make sure you learn from those mistakes and continue to keep working hard and develop your skills so you never make the same mistake more than once.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am new to the South Haven area, but I have loved coming here regularly to work at Siren’s Rose for my tattoo apprenticeship. As South Haven is on Lake Michigan, I would recommend coming in the summer and spending as much time at the beach as possible, although the beach is a beautiful place to visit any time of the year to take in the scenery. All of the people in South Haven have welcomed me to the town very warmly, and have been very supportive of me on my tattooing journey.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is my favorite part! First of all, I want to thank my amazing parents and all of my family members for their support and encouragement, and allowing me to pursue my dreams and passion for art. I also want to thank my high school art teacher Mrs. Jill Kuebler, who supported me throughout my high school years and taught me all of the fundamentals of art, which allowed me to begin my journey to my tattooing career. I want to shoutout all of my college art professors, who have helped me continue to develop my skills and have taught me even more about art. I also want to share my appreciation for everyone who has been willing and excited to reciceve a tattoo from me while I am still learning how to tattoo and perfecting my tattooing skills. And especially my mentor Sam Dustin, for taking me in and teaching me this wonderful skill that I can take on with me for the rest of my career and life.
