We had the good fortune of connecting with Candace Sturiano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candace, why did you pursue a creative career?
All my life I gravitated to art. I pursued this career because I can use my hands as an art form on people, an expression of love. I have dabbled in many other passions but none leave me feeling as fulfilled. To know that I can make people feel beautiful on the inside and out is what fills my cup up to overflow and continue my passion each and every day.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started CSD HAIR almost two years ago. During that time I was not working in a salon so I was able to dedicate most of my days building my brand and forecasting where I wanted my business to go. I quickly realized how many talented artist there were doing the same thing I was however I knew that the way I cultivate a relationship with my clients was much different. I pride myself on developing a one on one experience when hiring me for a wedding or a special event. Getting to this point over the last two years has had some challenges but I find the most growth within those challenges, and that’s what keeps me going. With the world becoming more virtual I have learned that advertising yourself on social media has been the most valuable to my brand, although getting referrals is the biggest compliment that I could receive! I want the world to know when they Invest their time and money into my business through every step of the way they will be treated like family.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have always had a love for Detroit! I first would start by telling them to stay at the Detroit foundation hotel where they could also dine in at the apparatus room located on the main level of the hotel. If it were this time of year I would tell them to go ice skating and visit all the small business shops while they walk around. I personally love being pampered while on vacation so going to the woodhouse day spa would be very important. Finally I would recommend going to a concert at little caesars arena or even catching a show at the fox theatre.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say that my number one support to keep pushing forward has been my husband. He has lifted me up at my lowest of lows when I thought about giving up, to continue forward because through the hardest times is when you see the most growth in yourself and your business.
