We had the good fortune of connecting with Allegra Jacobs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Allegra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
So the reason I chose such creative career, was due to my background. For everybody that don’t know me my name is allegra Jacob’s and I served 2 years in a federal prison with my oldest daughter.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
So after serving 2years in federal prison coming home with a 9 month old was ALOT for me I was stressed out for about 4 years straight after that my nursing career was done for selling drugs, Moving forward I couldn’t get a job nowhere with a felony so I started making wigs and teaching wig classes motivating and empowering black woman all over the world. Teaching over 870 women. Then which led me to where I am now. I had so much support and motivation from where I came from it pushed me to go harder and harder to the point where I became unstoppable. This journey was not easy. I had to pray over my business so many times. Right now I’m grateful for everything, cause I wouldn’t be where I am right now if it wasn’t for the heavy support from my family, friends and clients. I started my wig business from my basement literally. Up to now being the owner of “the wig bodega” on Detroits eastide. I just want the world to know it’s never too late to get started I don’t care what sad story you have, you have to get up and get on go. Don’t quit!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So I yes I love good meal, good lemon drop, & good hospitality I’m definitely gonna chose J. Alexander’s Restaurant And Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant. Definitely would have a ride downtown Detroit is actually beautiful down there they have so many new things to do outdoors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my husband for supporting me thru my entire process for helping me accomplish so much in so little time. also my business partner Tikresha Warren for always supporting and riding with me thru every storm I’ve had during this process as well. Business is not easy
