We had the good fortune of connecting with Todd Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Todd, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I can remember as a young man finding my way in life, like many people ask themselves. What do I want to do with my life? We all look at our interests, passions or hobbies and try to morph those into a career that we will enjoy and embrace. My passion and interests of nature and sustainable living has grown into a lifelong obsession of finding new life from old things.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am someone who has always enjoyed learning new skills. I started working on an orchard farm up north Michigan when I was 13 enjoying the the fresh harvests throughout the summer months and working long days. There was a saying in my family if you are not willing to put in 100% to complete your tasks then it is not worth your time. This has resonated with me for life so I tackle every job with that mentality. I have also enjoyed building things from other things or simply accomplishing a task to fix something. This is what I think has transformed my interests into a passion for sustainability. Many years have passed and at 48 years of age, I have had many jobs that have provided me a diverse knowledge that I apply to my business today. It wasn’t easy to obtain what my partners and I had built. Starting PCR in January 2020 was a challenging time let alone starting one but maintaining an existing business. We couldn’t be prouder that we pivoted our business model and grew our business during this time. now after 3.5 years, we have already grown out of our original space and into a much larger one. Our mission is to show the entire country that sustainable materials management is possible, the old linear waste cycle does not work and is frankly destroying the planet. Becoming a part of such an impactful business and having the support from individuals and organizations holds great importance to how we perform and educate society on reducing reuse recycle

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Grand Rapids has developed a diverse atmosphere of entertainment for a wide range of tastes. We would certainly enjoy downtown activities such as Founders Brewery for some diverse beer choices since Grand Rapids is beer city USA. Any given restaurant for some amazing food and then make our way down to House Rules game bar to check out the board games and maybe play a few hands of eucher. If the season was right we would make our way over to Cannonsburg Sking to spend a day snowboarding or even sledding.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To recognize and express our gratitude to those who believed in our perseverance and passion would start with Northern Initiative and select family members who provided funding for our start-up business. Since our start, Todd’s family has shown great support in volunteering to work, bringing delicious lunches, and helping with various tasks where we lacked strength. Within the first year we connected with the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (WMSBF) for which provided guidance and support to help succeed during the 2020 pandemic.
