Meet Diamon Doss | Event Planner and Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamon Doss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Before starting my own business my thought process always reflected on how I grew up and how I had to watch my parents struggle to support me. My mom worked a lot barely having time for me and my siblings growing up and my dad stayed gone a lot as well. So from jump, I always knew that I wanted to start my own business. Not only to generate more income, I wanted and had to become my own boss. I never had good experiences when working 9-5s so that was another reason why I wanted to start my own business. So when I did start to invest in my business, did get discouraged at first but I knew overtime my hard work will eventually pay off long as I kept my mind on what matters most, which is my children! It was very important for me not only to become a business owner, but to set an example for my kids to become their own bosses as well in the future.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is that I’m literally a jack of all trades. There’s nothing I can’t do in my eyes. Not only am I a successful business owner but I’m a full time college student, studying for business administration, I have experience in web designing and event planning, I can write and have won national and statewide awards for journalism, and I’m also a builder, meaning I can build anything as long as I put my mind to it. Growing up I always been hooked to school and books so that always made me an OutKast growing up from all my peers. I’m most proud of being able to be in positions where I can help give back to my community. This includes by doing social media giveaways, donating clothes to both families and charities, as well as adopted families on Christmas for the past two years now. I’m most excited about my new acting journey and my business branching off to new portable mirror photo booths. A lot of things are happening in my life that I can’t be more thankful for. My main thing I’m most proud of is never giving up on my hopes and dreams because if I had did so, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some recommendations I recommend friends visiting Kalamazoo, MI is downtown Kalamazoo. There you can find restaurants like old Burdicks, Brick and Brine, and escape rooms. There’s also a club called the Xperience or Thunderbird if you want to have a night of laid back fun and drinks. Some nice places to check out I would say airway lanes if you are traveling with kids, we have alot of nice parks around, and I would also recommend shops, movie theatre, and restaurants surrounding the crossroads mall in portage, MI. Cookies restaurant is always good located on the north side of town as well as Greg’s Gourmet on the east side of town. Idk there’s really alot of hidden gems in my town, it all just depends on what you have a prefrence for.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a special shoutout to my 3 beautiful daughters Cassidy, Cyncere, and Clarity. Without my girls I don’t know where I would be so I thank them everyday! I thank them for being my motivation, being my reminder to keep going, and just so thankful to be their mommy. When I feel like giving up, my kids instantly remind me of my purpose and the reason I’m running a business for, which is for them.
