We had the good fortune of connecting with Suchi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Suchi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always had a strong inclination towards visual storytelling. When I discovered the digital medium, it felt like the perfect tool to express my ideas and bring them to life. I pursued formal training in digital design and graphic arts, and my creative career unfolded naturally.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
After a decade in the corporate world, spanning two countries, I found myself settling in Dubai. The birth of my son in 2010 marked a turning point, leading me to embrace freelancing as a new chapter. One of my passions within this journey has been creating custom art that goes beyond the ordinary. Instead of mere portraits or caricatures, my illustrations capture the essence of individuals, their stories, passions, and cherished moments. I believe everyone has a unique narrative, and my art aims to visually express it.

My ability to listen attentively, absorb details, and translate them into my distinctive style sets me apart. I’ve had the privilege of working with both individuals and corporations, including global universities and local businesses. While my custom illustrations focus on personal stories, I also create instructional and editorial art for corporate clients and quirky designs for homegrown brands.

Transitioning from the corporate world to freelancing wasn’t without its challenges. The initial lack of structure and financial stability was daunting. However, I’ve learned to utilize my time effectively, acquiring new skills and enhancing my existing ones.

Throughout this journey, I’ve gained valuable insights. Persistence is key, especially when pursuing your passion. Lifelong learning is essential, especially in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape. The rise of AI presents both opportunities and challenges. As a creator, I believe in embracing AI while maintaining ethical standards. Technology should be used as a tool, not a replacement for human creativity.

My art is a reflection of life’s imperfections, a celebration of the authentic and real. The organic lines, flowing colors, and intricate details in my work resonate with many on a personal level. The joy of seeing my art adorn bedrooms, hallways, schools, and offices around the world is truly fulfilling. It’s a testament to the power of art to connect people and enrich their lives.

I’m deeply grateful to the incredible people who’ve shaped my creative journey. My parents fostered my artistic talents, while my sister expertly handles logistics for my Indian clients. A special thanks to my husband, who has consistently encouraged me to push my boundaries and strive for more, and to my mentor at Cyber Gear, Dubai’s leading web agency, whose guidance has been invaluable.

Furthermore, the supportive online creative community has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dubai has been my family’s second home for over two decades. This vibrant city offers a unique blend of tranquility and excitement, catering to diverse preferences. When friends visit, we often head to Jumeirah Beach, where stunning Arabian Sea views and the iconic Burj Al Arab create a picturesque backdrop. The pristine sandy beach, walking paths, and charming cafes provide a serene escape.

For a more adventurous outing, a drive up the Hatta Mountains is a must-do during the winter months. The breathtaking scenery and delicious breakfast options make it a memorable experience. Of course, a visit to Dubai wouldn’t be complete without exploring its world-class shopping malls. The Dubai Hills Mall, Waterfront Mall, and Festival Plaza offer a plethora of shops, restaurants, and pop-up stores.

The Dubai Mall, home to the largest indoor aquarium in the world, is another popular destination. Thrill-seekers can even venture into a cage to feed sharks! As the sun sets, the mesmerizing Dubai Fountains light up, providing a spectacular view of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building!

For authentic Arabic and Middle Eastern cuisine, Al Safadi is a must-try. Their shish tawook is simply divine. For a more extensive dining experience, the Kaleidoscope at Atlantis offers a lavish buffet and stunning views of the hotel’s opulent interiors.

Dubai’s nightlife scene is equally vibrant. The Irish Village pub, with its outdoor seating, live music, and relaxed atmosphere, is a personal favorite.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a great deal of my creative growth to the incredible people who have supported and mentored me along the way. My parents nurtured my artistic talents, my husband has consistently encouraged me to push my boundaries, and my mentor at Middle East’s largest web agency – Cyber Gear, Dubai has provided invaluable guidance.
