Meet Racquel Smith

We had the good fortune of connecting with Racquel Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Racquel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well I had my first child at 17 years old and I always tried to keep a job going but it was hard for me. My family at the time every one was working a full time job as well and daycare wasn’t a option I wasn’t even done with high school so years down the road I had finally had about 6 years into a 9-5 job and I really still didn’t care for not being able to be near my kids when they needed me. So I thought about what I could do to make money and spend time with my family as need be.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well my brand Rockingmynails came from me my nick name is rocky middle name is Monique and maiden last name is smith so I really tried to use letters from my last name to match my brand. The lessons I have learned is that life will always have a stop in it and a lesson to be learned it’s really about the human that you are and your spirit. Like your drive to become whatever talent the most high has given you. Really zoning in on what you want in life that’s the lessons I have learned and I’m still learning this life is a journey the story never ends
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well if someone that was super important in my life wanted to come to my area which is Detroit Mi. I would first take them downtown Detroit of course and park and get out the car and walk around first because I feel like I want you to see the brake down and the come up the grit that Detroit has and are drive. Then I would take them to my stumping grounds 7 mile evergreen and Patton where I grow up at as a child because you have to understand me and what I’m about first then I would take them to brightmoe where I got my drive from where my middle age took place at and show them that area after that I love healthy food so let’s go over to Ferndale and take them to some of the markets over there that I deal with day to day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give all praise to Jesus god for always helping me and not letting nothing stop me for giving me my talent I give thanks to all my followers on instagram and all social media platforms thank you for the likes and shares and comments and my friends and family thank you for helping me when you can or could I’m grateful so grateful all the places I worked thank you as well for allowing me to create and become the woman I am today by molding me into a force that never take no for an answer.
