Meet Falon Mccormick | Photographer/videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Falon Mccormick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Falon, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Sometimes I ask myself the same question. I just love making art, and I love making people smile and feel good. My absolute dream is to work on movies, I like the deep ones that have a very important meaning behind them. However when it comes to my photography career I see it less as selling a product/service, and more as providing a service that is capturing memories for forever. Like a painter.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love capturing raw, real emotions and moments. Whether that’s a wedding and a quite moment with the mother and groom, or a senior photo session and you can see how confident they feel when I show them the photos!
As for my filmmaking, I really like doing kind of the darker side of things, but I’m very big into showing the raw side of Mental Health. And I really want to send a message in my work of the not so pretty things that people don’t talk about, but are so important to hear.
I am still not anywhere near where I want to be professionally, however I was very proud of myself after 5 years of trying to make a name for my photography business, summer of 2023 I was finally able to set everything aside and focus solely on my business. However, since moving to Michigan, I’ve had to completely start from scratch as I don’t know anybody here. And it has definitely been a hustle trying to get my name out there.
There have been a lot of challenges along the way and a lot of lessons to be learned from Financial challenges to learning that you can’t make everyone happy. I just want the world to know that I do what I do because I love it, and that I am just trying so hard to live a life that I can be proud of.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sadly I haven’t gotten to explore Michigan as much as I wanted to. So we would go all the places I’ve heard are amazing.
First I would take them to the rest called The Deck on the beach, we would eat some food walk the beach to the lighthouse and walk the pier. I am from a state that doesn’t have much water and a lot of planes and mountains so this is definitely a sight to see.
After that I think strolling downtown Muskegon would be fun and seeing all the different restaurants and buildings they have, while also seeing all the big old houses. From there I would want to drive more North and check out the Lavender Fields and maybe walk through some of the Farms where you can pick your own fruit!
I am very much a nature person so anywhere with beautiful nature is where I want to be. I’ve been really excited to go to Traverse City and check out the blue water as well!
Then on our way home we can stop at The Handsome Hobo and eat their baked goat cheese dip.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my mom for always making sure I had my freedom of expression. I would like to thank my boyfriend, Connor, for always reminding me to go after what I want in life, and supporting me every step. And I would also like to thank my dear friend Rudi Womack who helped show me that I am good at what I do and not to let self doubt, and doubt of others get in the way of my dreams.
