Conversation with Arjun Singh | music producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Arjun Singh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Arjun, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
A quote I recently came across and saved was ” It is important to achieve our goals, but not at any cost, ” which I think may be by Mukesh Ambani. This quote really resonated with me recently because it made me reflect on what success really means. I personally feel that we’ve arrived towards a culture which seems to admire and at times even promote a cut throat or ‘by any means’ form of achievement. However, this to me is not overall good or healthy for the whole of society – which is why this quote spoke to me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I guess what perhaps sets me apart is my creative process. A lot of modern music making has become very fast in its creation, as well as loop based in terms of production. Myself on the other hand, I am kind of slow and like to think out the music conceptually first, so in this regard it has made it hard for me to fully fall in line with the current climate of music making, and perhaps the times we currently live in as well. However, as much as this may be a challenge it has also come with a lot of education towards my craft. A lesson which I have learned along the way ( and am still learning ), is the importance to adapt and always remain evolving. This doesn’t mean that you have to change who you essentially are or how you do things, but for me it means always having a willingness to deal with things as they are currently and see how to adapt to the times as well as the ever changing landscape of music making. That’s the biggest lesson I think I have held onto so far. It’s the importance of balancing staying true to yourself while simultaneously surfing with the changing times.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would keep an itinerary for my friends around my hometown of Ann Arbor fairly simple. There are a handful of hidden trails each worth making their own day of. As far as food and drinks, my list would go: Barry’s Bagels for a breakfast place, Monahan’s Seafood Market for lunch (they have great shrimp salad as well as fish and chips. For dinner and drinks, Miss Kim.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents, Davinder & Priti.
