We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, it all started with a blend of passion and purpose. After years of honing my craft in the entertainment industry, I felt a burning desire to carve out my own path and make a real impact. I wanted to create something that reflected my values and allowed me to express my creative vision without constraints. Starting my own business was about seizing the opportunity to pursue my dreams on my own terms, and to build a platform where I could promote empathy, connection, and equality through visual storytelling. It’s been a thrilling journey so far, filled with challenges and triumphs, but every step of the way has been worth it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey in the entertainment industry began as a professional dancer, where I immersed myself in the world of movement and expression. Through dedication and perseverance, I worked my way up to choreography, honing my craft and refining my artistic vision along the way.
One of the defining moments of my career was the opportunity to collaborate with iconic figures such as Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Usher, Missy Elliott, and Liza Minnelli. Working alongside these legends was not only a privilege but also a masterclass in creativity and professionalism. Their artistry and passion inspired me to push the boundaries of my own creativity and strive for excellence in everything I do.
While the path to success was certainly challenging, each step of the journey taught me valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and the power of collaboration. From navigating the competitive landscape of the industry to overcoming personal doubts and setbacks, I’ve learned to embrace every challenge as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery.
Today, as the owner and operator of SpinKick Pictures, I’m proud to carry forward the lessons and experiences gleaned from my time working with these legends. My mission is to harness the transformative power of visual art to inspire empathy, spark dialogue, and foster connection in a world that often feels divided. Through my work, I strive to leave a lasting impact and contribute to a more compassionate and inclusive society.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in New York City now so for a week-long adventure there is a lot to see. We would start with classic New York bagels at a local diner before taking a leisurely stroll through Central Park. Spend the morning exploring the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) to admire world-renowned works of art.
On another day, indulge in a brunch in the Hells Kitchen area before embarking on a journey to the Statue of Liberty. Afterwards, wander through the vibrant neighborhoods of Chinatown and Little Italy, sampling street food along the way.
Then we shop! A day devoted to browsing the boutiques and flagship stores in SoHo and Greenwich Village. Then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge for breathtaking views of the skyline before exploring the trendy neighborhoods of Williamsburg or DUMBO in Brooklyn for dinner and drinks.
Next a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met). Spend the afternoon strolling down Fifth Avenue, stopping at landmarks like Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and end the day with views of the city at sunset from the Top of the Rock Observation Deck.
On your final day, reminisce about your adventures over breakfast at a local café in Harlem before taking a final stroll through Central Park or along the Hudson River. Then I go home to sleep for a week! lol.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shoutout goes to my older sister, Grandmaster Karen Brown, who has been an unwavering source of support and inspiration throughout my journey. As an entrepreneur herself, with a successful martial arts studio in Worcester, MA, Karen understands the challenges and triumphs of building a business from the ground up. Her guidance, encouragement, and belief in my potential have been instrumental in shaping my path. Karen has always been there to push me beyond my limits and remind me of the importance of perseverance and determination. She’s not just my sister; she’s my mentor, my confidante, and my best friend. I’m endlessly grateful for her presence in my life and the profound impact she’s had on my entrepreneurial journey. #LetDoThis!
