Meet Bryan Abrams | A Modern Chiropractor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Abrams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Practicing what I preach. As a chiropractor, I “sell” health. Despite a lot of misinformation out there, social media/internet has given people a better baseline of knowledge when it comes to health and wellness before even walking into my door. So I’ve noticed over the years that their radar is better at sniffing out quality care. With so many different practices and/or specialties to choose from, my patients need to trust me and feel they are in good hands. Therefore, I better walk the walk. That means, I work out/move daily, eat relatively healthy (always room for improvement in this category), have proper sleep hygiene, drink plenty of water and practice mindfulness. To top it all off, I wear barefoot shoes but that’s a whole other conversation! Combining all these facets of health, I can counsel my patients to achieve better life habits that they know work and are supported by evidence-based literature.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My practice is called Healing Motion which is located in Bloomfield Hills on Maple and Telegraph. I opened my doors less than a year ago after building my first practice from the ground up in Los Angeles the past 10 years. Long story short, I recently moved here after suffering a mild heart attack in June of 2022. I’m a relatively healthy guy but my genetic predisposition had other plans. At the time, my wife, Jesse Palter, and I had a 6 month old son, Jude. The thought of losing her husband and Jude’s father at 6 months prompted the discussion to move back home. Jesse was born and raised in West Bloomfield. We made the difficult decision to move a few months later and we bid farewell to our life in LA and I personally left the practice I put so much energy into over the past decade. Anyway, seeing my son around his grandparents and cousins over the past year and being a part of this welcoming community has shown us that our decision was the right one. Building one practice is tough enough but doing it twice isn’t for the faint of heart. Luckily, I have a stent in my LAD artery now and a new appreciation for life and have hit the ground running. Although I’m not the only chiropractor who practices “my way”, the majority do not. I utilize soft tissue therapies (i.e. myofascial release and Graston technique) as well as functional rehabilitation (i.e. dynamic neuromuscular stabilization) in addition to chiropractic manipulation in each session. I also only utilize chiropractic manipulation in the following scenario – when a patient shows interest in that modality and there’s no contraindications. Translation – not everyone gets adjusted!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As I mentioned, I moved here last November and didn’t open up my business until January of this year. I’M the best friend in this scenario!! Please – give me all the pro tips.
But seriously, I go where my wife is usually performing. You can catch her doing her singer songwriter thang or singing jazz at the Magic Bag in Ferndale, The Dirty Dog in Grosse Point or the Blue Llama in Ann Arbor.
Ok, I’ll stop being a homer. Loved Mabel Gray and Barda.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jesse Palter, my wife, and Jude Abrams, my son.
