We had the good fortune of connecting with Evan Jaster and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Evan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My entire life the normal path of success never intrigued me, I always had a creative spark and drive for things I made. I’ve always wanted to share that joy and creativity with the people around me, and money isn’t really the goal, it’s just super fun!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Evan Jaster, I go by the stage name,”Jezter” (pronounced as jester). I’m mainly an electronic dance music producer specializing in dubstep, house, and drum & bass. I’ve been producing music for almost 10 years now, starting in 2017 and taking it seriously in between 2018 and 2019. Many names were experimented with and ultimately I landed on Jezter. All my life my last name has been mistaken as Jester, so I decided to embrace it and put a unique twist on it.

I also have an Associate’s Degree in Music Recording Technology, I don’t specialize in live sound or recording but more in mixing and mastering music. I studied at Schoolcraft Community College alongside local band affiliate Tyler Evans (Perfect Strangers, Nothing Formal, New Bark Town). I met him the first year studying at the college and since then we’ve been best friends and music nerds. We also have a project under the name,”FOCAL POINT”.

Lastly. I’m a DJ performing live as Jezter, my sets are truly an experience. I’ve only been DJing for about a year, maybe 2 years now so I’m fairly new, but I try my best and have fun while doing it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Growing up in the Metro-Detroit area, not in the city itself, there’s not much to do. I would definitely recommend visiting Detroit though, the Detroit Institute of Arts is a very nice museum. There’s also many downtown areas to walk around outside of Detroit such as Royal Oak, Northville, Plymouth, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people in my family have always motivated me to become the person I am today and will continue to be in the future. My grandparents, parents, and siblings have gone through plenty of hardships and have had things happen that have held them back, but they kept pushing forward. I continue to push forward, even when I want to give up, all thanks to them.
