We had the good fortune of connecting with Gejuan Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gejuan, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Being a mortgage broker allows me to educate and guide the people of my community through the financing process associated with either purchasing a home for the first time or looking for ways to use their home as a financial tool as a current homeowner. Homeownership is one of the mort important financial investments that can be made so having a mortgage professional that is knowledgeable on what financing options are available and also which options work the best for each specific situation is very important. Also, being a broker allows me to shop around for my clients to ensure we are putting them in the best financial position possible while saving them time and money in the process.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am very excited about my future in the mortgage industry. I feel like this is the career path I am supposed to be on and I see myself on it for many years to come. I got my introduction into the mortgage industry working for a Retail Lender in Charlotte, NC and even though it was brief, I felt like this was the industry for me. Fast forward a couple years and I had the opportunity to be an Account Executive at United Wholesale Mortgage. This solidified for me that I was where I was supposed to be and I was able to learn a lot about not only the mortgage business but building relationships as well. UWM gave me the foundation and knowledge I needed to feel confident making the move over to being a Loan Originator in the broker channel. The last few years in the business have been a bit of a roller coaster ride but I’ve learned even more how important it is to stay consistent in my business. My daily goal is to find a way to get a bit better so I can ensure that my clients and business partners feel I am an asset to their team and overall growth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to go with Downtown Detroit. There is literally something for everyone down there. Tigers games during the Summer are always a good time so we’d have to go to at least one of those. I’d make sure we went to Bucharest for the Chicken Shawarma, McShane’s for the Irish Egg Rolls and Bronx Bar has great food and drinks in general, so that would have to be on the list as well. I enjoy The Belt every time I go so that would be one of the top spots to hang out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family and friends would have to get the shoutout. I have a great support system that I can call on for anything. They encourage me to keep pushing and are my biggest cheerleaders. No matter what adversity I may encounter, I know they have my back.

I also have to mention a book called “The Four Agreements.” I go to it when I need to reset and put things back into perspective. My favorite agreement is “Don’t Take Anything Personal.” You encounter a lot of unique situations as a mortgage broker and being able to quickly move on from the unfavorable ones is necessary for success.
