Meet Grace Schafer | Hair Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Schafer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Grace, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I got to a point in my career where I wanted to play by my own rules. I wanted to create something that I 100% believed in and stood behind. I wanted something that would reignite my creative flame.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I value honesty and transparency above all else in my business. I won’t try and sell you something you don’t need. If I think a style won’t suit you, I‘ll tell you. Honestly equals trust, trust turns into respect, and respect turns into loyalty. Being honest with a client can be difficult, but is always worth it in the end .I think the investment in my client relationships is more important then trying to make an immediate sale. I got to where I am by working hard, and never closing myself off to learning new things. It wasn’t always easy, but no one ever grows by being comfortable. I learned to embrace the uncomfortable, and ride with it. I am just a gal out out in the world just doing the best I can, and doing what I can to create a comfortable hair space for all.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely start with dinner on Bridge St. There are so many great spots, Gin Gin’s, Butcher’s Union, Condado, etc. If the was a show open, I would take them to see something at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre, one of my favorites to visit and perform with. During intermission we would run down The Apartment Lounge for an intermission shot and post show drinks. I would also take them through Eastown to Matchbox for brunch and down to Rebel to pick up a fun souvenir.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner, Ethan, has been by my side the entire way, He always encourages me to take the extra step, and to invest in my career and hobbies. I am so grateful to have a loving group of family, friends, and clients who constantly show their support in and out of the chair.
