Meet Hope Ramales, DC | Chiropractor and Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Hope Ramales, DC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Hope, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As someone who has dealt with chronic disease most of my life, I understand how truly important having individualized and one-on-one care can be. I’ve been in countless doctors offices where I was told “there’s nothing that can be done” or “all your labs are normal so you’re was fine”, but I didn’t feel fine. Until I found a team of providers that were willing to dig deeper and spend the time with me, I was lost. Living through this, I knew I wanted to be part of the solution for people. I wanted to be part of that amazing team, like I had built for myself. One people could depend on and know that they would be receiving great care. And I knew the only way this could be done was by starting my own practice because no one else was going to value this the way I did. So, I started my practice on my own and after 2 years of being open, have stuck to keeping my business a one woman show, me! I love making my schedule so that I never feel rushed with a patient, we always have time for if anything new pops up or there are lots of questions. I also love having this beautiful and safe environment for everyone in a space that has large open windows out to a luscious view of the trees that sit around the pond of Parkview Hills, instead of one that feels sterile and inpersonable. I’ve created a place that I would come to as a patient, and this was my goal.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When you walk into my office, I can guarantee it won’t be at all what you expect when thinking about walking into a Chiropractic office. I have a small, quiet, space that overlooks the pond in Parkview Hills. I usually think busy and fast paced when I go to the Chiropractors, but at my office things are slowed down. I spend about 45minutes at every appointment with my patients. We take time to discuss how things have been since the last appointment, if there is anything new, and sometimes I’m ordering labs to dive deeper into my patient’s health. I like to think of my office as a relaxing experience, almost like a day at the spa. I always provide soft tissue work prior to adjusting my patients because our muscles and bones are all connected. Things move and work better when we address all aspects of the musculoskeletal system. I also offer many inflammation reducing therapies, such as electrostimulation therapy and cupping therapy, and I dedicate time to EDUCATING my patients. I think this is huge. They all leave aware of what is going on with their body and are given homework to do at home to continue reducing pain outside of my office, because my goal is for you to not need me for the same problem after we have solved it! Every person is different, so I create an individualized treatment plan with my patient that works best for them in all aspects of their life. I really pride myself on having a well rounded office space that feels safe and people feel heard in.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man! I love this question.
We would first go grab coffee at Fiddle Leaf Cafe for a delicious salted maple cortado and a little snack. We’d then go downtown to the Crow’s Nest for a delicious breakfast, and then we’d walk around downtown for a bit. Maybe go to a yoga class at KP fitness while we are down there, and afterwards stop at Rose St. Nutrition for a shake and tea bomb combo as a little post workout meal. Then we’d walk down near the Radisson to see if there were any events going on over this way and stop at Juicy Leaf on the mall strip for the best cold pressed juice in town to sip on while we walk around. For dinner, we’d go to Principle, my favorite place to get dinner in town, and then we’d end the evening listening to some jazz at Dabney and Co and have a mocktail/cocktail. This would be the perfect day for me to show someone new around Kalamazoo in one day!
If they are staying a week I’d say they need to spend some time at the Zen Dens for a relaxing afternoon/evening at some point, go to Gnarly Fit for a great workout while they are here, have the best facial ever at Bare Bones Beauty with Kayla, and get a relaxing massage with Lydia at Rejuvenation with Lydia. Another great place for a Pilates workout would be at Roots Barre and Yoga. They’d want to stop by the Kalamazoo Farmer’s Market as well if they are here on a Saturday to check out some of the amazing local farms and grab a cookie from the one and only 13 cookies! For a great pick me up energy drink that is locally made, stop by Factory Coffee (for a coffee here too of course) and pick up a Loot Energy drink for a pick me up the rest of the day. Climb Kalamazoo is another really fun spot as well!
There are so many amazing places here in Kalamazoo, it’s hard to choose just a few!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest support system has been my husband, Evan. He, daily, boosts me up and gives me the confidence to think I can do anything! Honestly, without him I likely wouldn’t have even considered opening my practice as an option. I’m forever grateful to him.
My parents and my in-laws have been incredibly supportive as well in this process. Even in the midst of Evan and I planning our wedding, the same year as starting my practice, they all continued to tell me how proud they were of me and that things would work out. And they did. I am thankful for those words, because they were much needed when I was just starting.
Lastly, to all my amazing connections here in Kalamazoo. I have met so many incredible people here in the 2.5 years I’ve lived in Kalamazoo. I can honestly say this community is the BEST. I have never felt so welcomed as a new comer and I have you all to thank, especially my new friends here, for continuing to recognize that what I’m offering is needed here.
