Meet Ingrid Lockhart | Fine Art Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ingrid Lockhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ingrid, what makes you happy? Why?
I began creating photographic images shortly after retiring from a long career in the Financial Services Industry. As I became more involved in the process, I found it amazing how much more I appreciated the world around me and how I began noticing beauty and interest in subjects that would never have caught my attention before, It makes me extremely happy to use my camera to capture objects and scenes around me, then, and to create a fine art image that will bring joy to me and my clients.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I call my business Ingrid Lockhart Photoimagery, because the image that comes out of my camera is just the beginning of the creation of the Fine Art images that I publish. It has been an intensive journey to master the tools that are available in the digital photography field today. These tools are constantly changing, but I find it very fulfilling to use them to create art that is uniquely mine. One of my favorite subjects is finding natural objects and examining them closely to capture the beauty of their essence. This year, I was fortunate to discover Jessica, who owns an amazing flower farm in Leelanau County: The Orchard Breeze Flower Farm. One of her services is a subscription which provides bouquets of flowers weekly. I subscribed for September to receive a bouquet of Dahlias each week during the month. Each dahlia is so individual and beautiful and it was an enjoyable challenge to capture their personality and beauty in a way that can be enjoyed as a Fine Art image long after the flowers have lost their vitality. The images included with this interview are examples of some of the results of this project. The most rewarding aspect of my business is to create images that will bring joy and good feelings for those that view them wherever they are displayed, in homes, businesses or even on the web.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would introduce them to Leelanau County, visiting all of the beautiful little towns, Sutton’s Bay, Leland, Omina, Glen Arbor, Empire and Northport. Each of these towns has its own great restaurants, harbors and marinas to explore, antique and art galleries, and natural parks and lake shore access.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
After I began to take my photography seriously, I joined a Camera Club in my Community that is sponsored by The Photographic Society of America. Through that group, I received encouragement from other members, educational opportunities, and constructive critique of my work, so that my images evolved over time to be uniquely mine and of a quality to receive regional and national awards and recognition.
