We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Hicks-Dees and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
Ultimately the end goal is I want to teach and equip others. I want to do some form of business empowerment.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
J’s Catering is truly love made visible. It has not been easy with different things to overcome over the years but it has been worth it. I got to where I am today by all my beautiful clients! They are the true reason I can keep going, they share my post, word of mouth, or they support by booking an event. The lessons I have learned along the way is don’t give up even when it’s hard. Show up everyday even on those days where you feel like giving up. Trust me it gets better!! Storms always run out of rain.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I would start by going to brunch, then we would go to the art museum to walk around, look at art, and talk. Then go hit up some stores and shop until we drop! Then we would head home freshen up and hit the town for dinner and drinks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom was my biggest inspiration in everything I do with cooking. She had me in the kitchen at 2 years old measuring and helping be her little sous chef. One of my biggest joys was cooking with my mom and getting ready for holidays. She passed away a little over 2 years ago and I miss her dearly, but I want to keep her name alive in everything I do with my cooking!
