We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Wiegand and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind our success is the way we treat vendors, venues, and our clients. Although treating your clients with respect and kindness seems to be a given for anyone in our industry, it is shocking how many vendors do not translate those same actions towards staff at venues and other vendors. Early on in business, I gained a reputation for being easy to work with and respectful of the jobs the other vendors were trying to do. As I tell new vendors, I’m here to make your job easier – not to tell you how to do it. I’m not a photographer, I don’t know how to do that job. However I can help make the transitions during the day easier for a photographer – I can help make the timeline run more smoothly – because that is where my expertise comes to play. In the end, I know that this attitude has resulted in much more success for the business, evident by the number of leads we get from venues and other vendors.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the things I am most proud of is that BDP is capable of working with so many different styles and colors. While some of our competitors focus on one style (and do it REALLY well!), we are set apart because we love working with different inspirations. I love that one weekend we have a black tie wedding that is all blacks and whites with a classic design and the next, we are working with vibrant colors with unique shapes and textures. It not only keeps our job more interesting, but it is a nice challenge.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my best friends was coming into town, I would for sure tell them to stay in Detroit. Shinola hotel always has stunning rooms and fantastic services. The new Godfrey and Cambria hotels are also amazing and would be fantastic places to check out. With an abundance of places to eat, I still have to say that Prime and Proper will always be at or near the top of my list! Walking around the financial district will give fantastic shopping options as well as even more fun places to eat!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate a shout out to one of my oldest and most supportive “Friendors” : Kevin with Stem Event Design. Kevin and I met through another vendor the first year we began both of our businesses and has been a constant in my life ever since. Being able to have another business owner, a friend, that is in a similar stage and situation to my own is a huge support that I’ve needed throughout the years. It’s invaluable to have someone you can talk through issues, staffing concerns, your successes and failures, and I’m not sure I would have gotten through the last 14 years without his help and support!
