Meet Jessica Farhat | Nurse Practitioner, Owner of NECTAR body•face•skin

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Farhat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, how do you think about risk?
When I think about risk, I think about the potential loss, sacrifice, and the potential gain as a consequence of risk. When we take a chance at trying something new with a potential outcome of success or failure, it is then that we advance our skills in the most crucial ways. It is the experience we gain with risk taking that build resilience and perseverance within ourselves.
Thinking back as far as I can to my first thoughtful encounters with risk was when I was a little kid. I remember looking at the monkey bars and thought about the risk. I thought that I could fall and break my arm like a kid from my elementary class named Andrew W. I thought that maybe I could do it like some of the other kids, or maybe do it even faster than some of the others. So I tried. I took a risk and sailed crossed the monkey bars. For some reason I felt a little bigger after that.
Fast forward to just a few years ago, I took a large risk to leave my very comfortable Dermatology Nurse Practitioner job, working for an amazing group with a very competitive salary and open my own aesthetic practice at the tail end of covid. Aesthetics was labeled as a non-essential service at the time I committed to open my own practice. However, getting comfortable is not exactly my style. I’d rather take a risk at a potential fruitful opportunity and fail than ruminate over thinking what if I actually tried. Opportunities sit just around the corner from risk.
Opening my practice has given so much experience, learning lessons, personal development and growth in numerous ways. It has allowed me to craft a vision in my mind and have enough faith to bring it forth. The relationships that have been made in the process of planning and serving in my business has been beyond amazing and alone worth all of the risk.
Ever since my elementary days, risk has been a unique tool that has helped guide me when making decisions. Risk can apply to all areas of our life, such as risks that we take with our health (or not), our social life, our love life, our careers, etc. Overall, risk-taking encourages and enables innovation of the self or collectively. Sometimes we win and sometimes we learn, but it always leads to growth.

We opened our doors about two and a half years ago and are here today because we foster genuine connection with every single one of our guests. Establishing a report, listening to concerns and executing a transformative plan that is specifically formulated for each individual we see is also why we are here today with such success.
Was it easy? No and yes. Yes because our mission above is aligned with our passion. We work well together because our passion is collective. The not so “easy” aspect is that everything comes with a cost. The cost of launching a business is very long days and nights. Endless hours of planning, prepping and work that comes in to executing a vision comes with sacrifices and trade offs. Those sacrifices are not easy.
Keeping the goal in mind, to grow in our aesthetic service to the Mid-Michgan Area is what keeps the challenges we face easy. Meeting new people and seeing familiar faces bring us joy and fulfillment. Building real relationships and connections with our community and offering them our skillset and services rejuvenates our team just as it does our guests. So that’s a win!
The message I’d love to share with the world about my story is to dream big, take risks and practice perseverance. In regards to the Nectar Brand, our message is consistent: We embody beauty, health and happiness. By providing effective and modern treatments, delivered by highly trained providers, you will leave NECTAR feeling refreshed, vibrant and confident…ready to bloom.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You are visiting the capitol city, Lansing! Although I would considered us a smaller metro city, there’s so much fun here.
Having a Big Ten school in our backyard, Michigan State University, really creates a diverse food scene and I am here for it. From authentic ramen at Saporro, Bread Bites for a Lebanese-Palestinian palate, Altu for Ethiopian, the selections are fulfilling. But, for my best friend coming in from out of town, I would have to take them to my new favorite spot in, the sophisticated Toscana.
During their visit, I would suggest catching a game at MSU if in season. The Graduate Hotel would be a great stay and their rooftop bar gives one of the best elevated views of the city and a personal favorite to catch the sunset.
It wouldn’t be a visit without enjoying one of the most phenomenal facials at Nectar body•face•skin.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this part! A HUGE shoutout goes to my husband, Gregory Farhat, for teaching me the foundation of business. He has encouraged my risk taking and strategy with my career and partnerships and has offered endless support.
Equally, I would love to shout out my team at NECTAR, Sydney, Emilee and Amber. They are not only phenomenal individuals, but collectively a rad powerhouse of aesthetic ladies. The skills, intellect, vibes and visions our team has together fuels me.
