Meet Jessica Powers | Real Estate Consultant and Owner of Nurturing Homes Real Estate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Powers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The entire principal behind Nurturing Homes is genuinely caring for everyone that we meet. This isn’t a forced presentation or a gimmick. We understand how stressful moving can be and we want to use any tools we have to decrease that stress. I think this genuine care speaks volumes above the negative connotation some people may have about Real Estate Agents. When you’re able to offer a safe space for people they will be happy to accept that and work with us.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Joining the world of Real Estate was not “the plan.” While I’ve always enjoyed dabbling in anything home related, I thought that my profession would always be in Medicine. However, in 2019 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and I was not able to work as a Paramedic due to being immunocompromised. During this time I obtained my Real Estate License. It was definitely not easy to start due to my medical condition, but I continued through. Shortly after I was in remission, I moved back to my home town in Michigan from North Carolina. I then had to rebuild what I spent the last two years building, in a new state. Thankfully, I had a few positives helping me – being familiar with the area, knowing people and being able to network, and having my mom by my side.
Perseverance has been the constant through this entire journey. Originally when I began telling people the idea of Nurturing Homes, they thought it wasn’t necessary. “Yeah, but Realtors don’t have to do all that,” was a common comment made to me. I understand that going the extra 5k isn’t “necessary,” but it’s what we do because it’s who we are. If anything fails in this world, don’t let staying true to yourself fail too.
At Nurturing Homes, we take full service to the next level. We provide cleaning, professional photography and marketing, setting up utilities in a new home, explaining all documents in detail, setting up movers if needed, etc. We use every tool imaginable to decrease the stress of buying and/or selling a home for everyone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
How fun!!!! Buckle up and get ready for a good time and some animal cuddles too….
First, I would take them to Tucker J Ranch in Davison! Not only would we hang with my trusty sidekick, Whiskey, we would get to see Sarah Roch’s amazing ranch full of great animals who are loved so much.
Christmas time or not, Frankenmuth is a must see as well. Shopping at Bronner’s and seeing the amazing shops in town are always a good time finished off with a stop at any of the amazing restaurants.
The Flint Farmer’s Market in Flint is a favorite as well, especially on a Saturday when vendors are set up outside too. My son’s favorite is Stone Cottage Farm. He will spend forever at their stand to smell all their goat’s milk soaps, while begging to buy all his favorites.
Lastly, during the season we would definitely have to check out a Flint City Buck’s game. They’re an awesome team! If it’s not in season, we would check out Flint Style Soccer for a great time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother is the only reason I even contemplated becoming a Real Estate Agent. She has been an agent most of my life and when I was a teenager I would often help her with things. Through this, I learned a lot about the Real Estate world and how successful it can be. Thanks, Mom! The other major mentor to me is my cousin Erin Rickman. She is an absolutely unbelievable agent and I enjoy learning from her whenever I get the chance.
