We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucas Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lucas, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always dreamed of entrepreneurship, though the vision has evolved over time. I launched The Warrior Monk Method because I recognized Battle Creek and surrounding areas needed recovery-rooted wellness practices, in reality it isn’t a focus in many areas I have lived or in other wellness businesses—I believe deeply in the art of recovery.

The definition of yoga is union, which forms the foundation of my business. While The Warrior Monk Method has expanded beyond yoga, this principle of connection remains at its core. My recovery-rooted practices can help individuals reunite with each aspect themselves and the world around them. As a business owner, I work to unite like-minded practitioners in our community, fostering collaboration and resource-sharing so everyone can access the support they need for genuine healing and growth.

My background as a former competitive strength athlete and current martial artist has shown me recovery’s physical power, while overcoming childhood trauma taught me its mental and spiritual benefits. Everyone needs healing at some point; I’m here to support that journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Warrior Monk Method has been years in the making, evolving long before I envisioned it as a business. After stepping away from competitive strength training to focus on movement and healing, I discovered a profound connection with yoga philosophy and ancient wisdom traditions. What distinguishes my approach is the unique combination of diverse life experiences, multidisciplinary training, and an insatiable curiosity that drives me to continuously explore and integrate new practices.

Beyond developing The Warrior Monk Method, I’ve dedicated myself to martial arts and writing, culminating in publishing my first book in January 2025. I’m particularly excited about fostering connections with other wellness practitioners to create a collaborative community that recognizes recovery not as a luxury but as an essential component of wellbeing.

The path to establishing my recovery-rooted practice has included numerous challenges and periods of self-doubt. However, the unwavering support of my family and the meaningful professional relationships I’ve cultivated have reinforced my confidence that this healing message will continue to spread. Throughout my journey, I’ve gathered countless life lessons—108 of which I share in my book—but one principle stands above the rest: life continues regardless of our struggles, so approach each experience with curious eyes rather than a judgmental heart.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Starting local to me, I’d start our adventure at Handmap Brewing in Battle Creek for some of the best local pizza and craft beer before heading north to Traverse City for a couple of days. In Traverse City, we’d explore downtown shops, visit Mission Point Lighthouse for panoramic bay views, tour the stunning wineries along Leelanau Peninsula, and experience the breathtaking Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

Then we’d head to St. Joseph for a beach day at Silver Beach, where we could ride the historic carousel with its 44 hand-carved horses, cool off at the Whirlpool Compass Fountain, enjoy Silver Beach Pizza in the old Amtrak depot, and catch a Lake Michigan sunset.

The next day would be dedicated to Kalamazoo’s art and nature scene, including the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, followed by a day exploring nature at the Kalamazoo Nature Center with its 15+ miles of trails. We’d finish the trip with a visit to Grand Mere State Park near St. Joseph, hiking through sand dunes and white pine forests.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The foundation of any success I’ve achieved or will attain begins with one person: my wife Alysha. Her unwavering support, respect, and the autonomy she grants me through every unconventional idea has shaped who I am today. When the world feels as if it is crumbling, she remains my steadfast pillar. The Warrior Monk Method exists because she created the container that gave me space, time, and security for me to go through my own healing process. She is the bedrock that allows my recovery methods to flourish.
