We had the good fortune of connecting with Mandy Haynes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mandy, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m originally from San Diego, California. My dad’s side of the family all have roots here in Michigan. As a kid my grandparents owned a house on a lake in South Branch and we would come out and spend a couple weeks every Summer. Those are some of my favorite memories fishing and riding quads. My background has always been in management & business. My very first job in high school was at Hungry Howies where I quickly became a shift supervisor even at a such a young age.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Starting the business in a July 2019 was exciting and a ton of work!! Just when I felt a little bit of a routine Covid hit in March 2020. Having not only our personal lives turned upside but also having to close the doors so early on with the store was frightening. The unknown is always scary but having the entire world at a stand still and not knowing what was happening next was terrifying. Thankfully we were able to pivot and started online sales, shipping and curbside pickups. Our customers made the switch too and their support was monumental. Their support kept us motivated and we were able to navigate through this time and kept our store afloat.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love strolling downtown areas with lots of history. The old buildings and small-town feels has always been a draw for me since moving here. Shopping in downtown Howell is always fun!! I also love making the trip up to Mackinaw for the day. When we have family visit during the Summer we always hit up the local lakes for fishing & kayaking. The kids love swimming and exploring.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family has been an incredible source of support. Retail & Small Business is a tough combo that can be stressful and exhausting. I’m very appreciative for the patience and extra help my husband has given our family. The small business life can be consuming and overwhelming at times. I’ve also been blessed with a great team of vendors within my store. I can always count on an extra pair of hands when needed.
