Meet Markeith Jones | One of three founders for Omega Sigma Delta . A dancer, coach, choreographer, teacher and eboard member for the fraternity.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Markeith Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Markeith, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well the formation behind Omega Sigma Delta Auxiliary Fraternity, Inc. was out of necessity. Our aim is to progress Black centered marching band auxiliary dancing and theres not a lot of these spaces in our region. So Our three founders came together to give creation to the fraternity as a means of filling this gap.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My main artistic outlet is dance and music. Dance was not easy for me to progress in initially because when I began my journey I was very overweight, and no one took me seriously. This was ninth grade and it was my first time being introduced to an actual dance community and I loved it but I dont think anyone saw me as having actual potential, With that being said I didnt have much vocalized and explicit support but I kept at it because i knew its what I wanted in my heart. I practiced everyday, no matter how small the space. I was self taught for a very long while and didnt receive training until junior year of highschool and later than that college. I overcame those barriers by simply listening to myself and now I am well rehearsed, well taugh, well trained, ive trained and taught others. If i wanted the world to take away one lesson from my journey it would be to always bet on yourself. No matter what you see, no matter the discouragement , when it comes to your self, and your journey always bet as if you’re gonna win.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well for myself I love college life, I am a chronic academic so I would probably take anyone visiting (which i do all the time) to Wayne State. I love being on my campus and its fun to show people the hustle and bustle.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate the shoutout to the members of Omega Sigma Delta Auxiliary Fraternity, Inc. as well as our supporters,
Without the members we are just a name, our members come together to progress our mission and aims which I couldnt be more thankful for. Without our supporters what we do would be a lot more difficult. At the end of it all we do what we do out of service to our community and our supporters are included in that.
