Meet Nadége Lamarre | Haitian and Japanese proud & Medical Assistant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadége Lamarre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadége, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
So I’ve actually have had general anxiety disorder for most of my life now . So I had a lot of times in my life where I thought giving up was my best option. But honestly my devotion to god led me to keep going. I would take hit after hit in obstacles and asked myself why do I even try if I’m just going to get put down everytime I get up, But then I started to realize why do I stay down? Why don’t I keep getting up until I actually stand up . I changed the way I thought because I wanted to change my outcome. Instead of asking god why I started thanking him . Because all those times I got put down I didn’t realize I didn’t try to get back up I stayed down. I started realizing that god was putting me down to test how bad I wanted to stay up . That motivates me, that gives me the strength to constantly keep going and prove to myself . No matter the circumstances no matter how big or small I am bigger than what my mind might think I am and I want everyone to know do not let your mind control you , control your mind even when you think it’s too hard to I promise it’s not such thing as I CANT.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently I am a student who recently in May, became a Certified Medical Assistant. I was in a technical program during high school for 2 years where I spent most of my time in the Health Science program . I also recently of last year became involved with my schools athletic trainer helping out with athletes in the training room. I also did my work based learning from January to the end of March working at Physical Therapy sites during school hours. This health science program I was in was to say the least not easy but makes you become career ready. I want to pursue Sports Medicine and become a Sports Medicine Physician, Working with Professional leagues. Beside from the professional part of my career I want to grow a platform to talk about issues that I want to bring to light . I want to be a strong advocate for Haiti . As a Haitian I feel as though Haiti’s issues are quickly neglected especially with everything the country itself has been going through. I want others to be aware of the issues our world is going through that are constantly being neglected on. I also want to be an advocate for mental health, especially in the sports industry and the mental health of our athletes and what they go through on a day to day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love going to downtown Birmingham, it’s a good site with lots a places to shop and great places to eat at . My favorite places to eat at would be Brooklyns Pizza which has the best pizza and Planthropie which I like to call a hidden gem because not many people know about it . Downtown Birmingham is also a great place to walk especially at night with all the light decorations they have wrapped around the trees .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother has been a very big advocate in my life who has helped me in my battle with mental health and has always been my Mrs.makeithappen.
My father who has raised me to have an incredibly open mind and taught me how we are bigger than this world.
My brother being the best role model in my life showing me how to be humble, how to work business and the real world . How struggle cannot define your success.
