We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Randall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I grew up in Ann Arbor so I have had the privilege of experiencing a progressive community rich in culture, history and the arts throughout my life. From a young age I attended Daycroft preschool in Ann Arbor. I believe that the Montessori method of teaching there focused on children’s natural interests and hands-on learning likely impacted me from an early age. I fell in love with art at a young age and when I was asked what I would like to be when I grew up, I would always share that I wanted to be an artist. During my high school years, I dual enrolled at Pioneer and Community High Schools. I took a few art classes at Community and enjoyed them very much.
I graduated from The University of Michigan and thought that I might follow a more traditional career path to become an attorney.
I moved to Miami, FL after graduation and was inspired by the fashion/beauty/makeup industry while there.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my business, Eyeconic Lashes, LLC in 2012. At the time it was the only business in Ann Arbor that was just offering lash services. It was a new concept at the time so it was not easy. Many people did not know what lash extensions are, so it involved introducing people to a new concept. I was able to overcome challenges by believing in myself and the products and services I was sharing with my clients. I could see how happy clients would get when they opened their eyes with a new set of lashes. Knowing that I was helping clients to feel more youthful, confident and beautiful kept me going.
Along the way, I learned that owning a business is not easy. I have worked countless evenings, weekends, felt like I’m on call, etc. However, I would not trade being able to set my own schedule, be my own boss and have the freedom to create for any other type of employment.

In 2017, I added permanent makeup as a service- Microblading and Lip Blush. These services have transformed the way my clients feel in their day to day lives. I have had the privilege to perform Microblading on many clients who are suffering from conditions that cause hair loss to the brow area including cancer, alopecia and trichotillomania. Being able to provide a solution for brow hair loss for my clients brings me satisfaction.

The Eyeconic Brand is about excellence and I’m proud that I’ve been able to give my clients great experiences and renewed confidence with permanent makeup and lashes.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently went to the Michigan Theater with my family to watch the Michigan Wolverines win the National College Football Championship and it was spectacular! Catching a movie or show at this iconic, historical theater is a must. If you’re visiting on a football Saturday, there’s nothing like the Big House itself to catch a Michigan football game.
I’m a big fan of the Gandy Dancer restaurant- an architectural landmark with great food. I love the Sunday brunch, but anytime is a good time to enjoy a meal there.
VKitchen- a family owned Vietnamese restaurant is one of my favorites.
I love everything Zingerman’s from the Kerrytown location to the Roadhouse, to the Bakehouse and Creamery.
Starbucks at Arborland is on point! The staff are amazing. They make your drink perfectly and speedily and even remember your name after a few visits
The UMMA – University of Michigan Museum of Art is always an amazing FREE experience.
During the summer my family and I enjoy Top of the Park music festival and movies.
The Arboretum or “Arb” which is a beautiful space to enjoy nature.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my parents for allowing me to create and follow my dreams and for supporting me in discovering who I am today.

In 2010, I began a spiritual journey that transformed my life , who I am, my future and the future of my family. I thank Tom and Melinda Monahan for taking the time to study the Bible with me, lovingly introducing me to the True God and his son, Jesus Christ and inspiring me by their example and dedication to our God and our faith.

In 2017 I began a personal/professional development journey. I chose an organization called Landmark Worldwide and completed a transformational 3.5 day course called The Landmark Forum. Over the years, I have participated in numerous Landmark educational programs. There are many individuals who have impacted me from Landmark. Foremost of these, who I have had the privilege to work closely with at various times is the Detroit Center Manager, Nitzana York- a powerhouse of a human being.
Marzen and Alison Baldonado- it has been such a privilege to work with you both and so much fun! My Coach in the Introduction Leaders Program, Charles Primas and my Buddy in the same program- Christine Thompkins.

I dedicate this shoutout to two amazing guys- my husband/best friend, David Randall- Thank you for inspiring me and supporting me and most of all “getting” me and loving me. My son- Charles-David who brings immeasurable joy to my life.
