Meet Sahil Aswani | DJ & IT Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sahil Aswani and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sahil, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I feel there are a million reasons to keep going and not give up, despite the challenges that we face, in spaces where we create “peak experiences”. These experiences are where we have goosebumps that are induced by a state of euphoria.
Many times when we contemplate whether to keep going or give up, we typically become sporadic with our efforts. As we all know, consistency is key. So, for the side of me that is a realist, it may be time to sit down, evaluate the situation, and live firmly by the decision.
Such an evaluation may involve writing down your thoughts while processing not only the worst moments but also, hopefully, the peak experiences as well. If those peak experiences are not worth the challenges and struggles, it may be time to give up.
I have seriously considered giving up DJing once in the past year that I have been DJing. I have gone from learning to DJ to playing at clubs and events during this time. For me, the peak experiences triumph the challenges and the understandable low moments that come with the experience.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Lagos-raised Afro-centric DJ. The ability to bring international music together with Afrobeats and Amapiano sounds is something that I am passionate about, and I continue to develop my skillset & output around.
I am proud to be a part of the broader community pushing African music while not looking the part, even though I spent the first 18 years of my life in Nigeria and growing up to the music.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Below is a little of things I’d do:
– Eating: People’s Kitchen, Charlie Kang’s
– Hang out: Tulip Time, Uncle John’s Cider Mill
– Visit: Tahquamenon Falls, Pictured Rocks
– Shopping: Birch Run Premium Outlets, Great Lakes Crossing Outlets
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to the following:
– Book – Rock The Dancefloor! by Phil Morse – This is the first content that I consumed to start learning how to DJ
– AfroRave Events / DJ Rexyo – The first opportunities to play Afrobeats & Amapiano events in Lansing
– DJ E-Nyce – The opportunities to be on stage and fuse my niche of Afrobeats & Amapiano with other genres
– DJ Marine & DJ Zappyy – The opportunities to create peak experiences and build my clientele
