What are you inspired by?

We asked some of the most inspiring folks we know to tell us what they are inspired by.
I am inspired by true genuine people with pure hearts and intentions, who have nothing to gain and look for nothing to gain in return by helping others. Whether it be by helping someone monetarily, mentoring them, giving them words of encouragement etc. In my lifetime I’ve seen people who were very well off financially help people that had absolutely nothing. To see how that can impact someone’s life is one of the best feelings ever- at least to me anyways. I love to see people getting blessed. I love to see people helping people. I love helping people. So to see people who have the heart to help someone, knowing that that person can never repay them and they don’t even care; that truly inspires me. It inspires me and motivates me in wanting to become a better me. Read more>>

I draw my deepest inspiration from the natural world that surrounds me. The minute details and intricacies of nature, often overlooked by the casual observer, captivate me. I relish the opportunity to capture these hidden marvels through the lens of my camera. In addition to nature, I find inspiration in two distinct art movements: Surrealism and BioArt. Surrealism allows me to manifest otherworldly imagery within the context of the natural world, creating a juxtaposition that highlights the mystical and fantastical elements of our environment. On the other hand, BioArt enables me to bridge the realms of photography and physical biology, showcasing the beauty and complexity of biological objects such as bees and hive pieces. Read more>>

There are so many things that have shaped me as a mature artist, that I will only name some of the most current things I am thinking of and feeling. I have always admired and been influenced by ancient and antique textiles, including carpets, shawls, embroideries, etc., but most recently, I have found myself closely studying American colonial samplers. Visually, I love the varied but ordered arrangements of patterns and images, and intellectually, I am fascinated by the common language of symbols that were prescribed for these embroideries, and shared by young women; symbols like the willow tree representing death or gardens for life, etc. Read more>>

After losing a loved one to depression and experiencing the stigma and outdated conversations associated with a death by suicide, I was inspired to update the outdated conversations, talk about the illness rather than the act, and remember our loved ones for how they lived, rather than how they died. I found that healing began to deepen for me, when I was able to hep someone else through conversations that allowed others to understand that depression is an illness. Depression is treatable. Depression is preventable. But, like all other illnesses some people live, and sadly, some people die. It’s like that with mental/brain health illnesses too. Read more>>
