Meet Baby Herk | Recording Artist & Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Baby Herk and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Baby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Honestly I just started treating it like a business. Being a Hip Hop artist was more so a hobby starting off. I didn’t realize you had to treat it like a business. My thought process at first was to just rap, get better at my craft to put myself out there & eventually “blow up”. Now my process is actually treating it more like a business. So that’s organizing everything I need to be successful & profitable as a brand.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart is that I’m my own person 100%. Like most artist, I did grow up in the hood, experienced poverty to a certain extent & had some childhood trauma I experienced. However through it all, I still managed to not let my environment stir me in the wrong direction. My pops & moms was hustling to help provide for the family. Later on they did a 180 to make sure we were good. It wasn’t easy growing up sometimes but I don’t regret anything I went through. I wouldn’t be who am without the experiences & growing pains. Now in my adult years, I feel like my journey is very separate from the average. I’m a health advocate. I’ve been plant based for 5 years now so I don’t eat anything from an animal. I work out a lot. I don’t smoke anymore. I occasionally drink wine & champagne. I cut out liquor completely. I’m a Christian man so I’m working on my spirituality & being mindful of what I choose to do, say & be around that is pleasing to the word of God. I got where I am today because of God & just never quitting. I never had the mentality to quit. I played football as a kid up until high school so whenever we was on the field in the game, we played every quarter & every down win or lose.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to downtown Detroit to see how nice the city looks. Then I would take them to one of my favorite pizza places “Grandma Bobs” for some good food. I would also take them to a Lions or Pistons game. Our sports team fan bases are the most die hard fans you’ll meet! lol I would have them also check out the Detroit Institute of Arts museum to check out the wonderful art & events they have. It’s so much to do in the city if you’re visiting I can go on for days.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shout out to my supporters. Without them, I don’t think I would’ve ever took being an artist serious. I love all of them. Shout out to my father for being a legendary Hip Hop artist who also embraces me as an artist. He gives me plenty of gave & credit when it’s due. Shout out to my woman. One of my biggest supporters. My brother Young Herk. One of the realist & most solid guys ever in life I know. Shout to all my family. It’s love always. Shout out to Rap Camp. Them my people’s. We up next in this rap game. Shout to the whole Detroit rap scene. Keep pressing!
