We had the good fortune of connecting with BOOSTER and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BOOSTER, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk has played a major role in my career. Whether it be musically or just taking some steps in life that may seem unorthodox, risk has always been a factor in my approach in life. As the music director of a lot of churches, concerts and Music artists I always feel the need to give people something different than what their ears are used to hearing in the musical arrangement. If you don’t risk the arrangement sometimes, I feel like you will always get the same outcome.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what truly sets me apart is my approach to music in general. The way I play, sing and even how I hear is very unique and this ability makes it alot easier to musically communicate with my audience. This is what has gotten me to where I am professionally today. Being able to always know my audience and curate a specific experience for that exact moment. The delivery of the music will be slightly different every time! Although this is rewarding NOW because I have mastered reading the room and collaborating with my fellow band members, it has not always been easy. It took YEARS for me to understand exactly who I am as a creative and how my story as a man would be the perfect artistic body of work. It took even longer to be paired with the perfect musicians, especially since I’m a picky musician myself. All I could do is always stay positive and always push to move forward. Some moments felt like I was at standstill or like I was hitting a brick wall when it came to progress. I had to master patience and meditation to be able to have conversations with myself before giving up. Being a creative professionally is not for the weak. I personally commend anyone who has also chosen this path. I’ve learned that if you don’t take a risk and take one more step, you may turnaround right before reaching something amazing. I want the World to know that Love Lives in my Music. I love who I am, what I do and what it does for my listeners. I’m Your Boost!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, this is a loaded question. Detroit is not only a legendary place because of its rich musical history, but there is always something going on and the scenery is beautiful. It’s one of those things where you have to know The spots either because you heard from someone, or you went discovering for yourself. There are places like NEP, that do a open mic on Sunday and have DJ’s and live music every Friday, but the address isn’t even online. I feel very conflicted by the list I’m going to give you only because there are so many and I know I can’t list them all, but I’ll do my best to give you some good ones.

I like to consider myself a foodie, so food’s first:

Bucharest Grill-Detroit
Pequeno Cantina-Detroit
Detroit Shipping Co.-Detroit
Sweetwater Tavern-Detroit
Lou’s Deli-Detroit

Next is the scenery. I tend to take walks at least 3 times a week just to reset my mind in places that are very visually captivating. Here are my top 5 places to take a stroll:

Dequindre Cut-Detroit
Belle Isle-Detroit
Carpenter Lake-Farmington
Ford Field Park-Dearborn
Cranbrook House and Gardens-Bloomfield Hills

The last thing in this line of work is one of the most important and that’s the nightlife. Here are a couple of my favorite spots to perform, hangout and have some fun:

Standby-Detroit
Spotlite-Detroit
526 Dueling Piano Lounge/Tequila Blue-Royal Oak
Deluxx Fluxx-Detroit
Fowling Warehouse-Hamtramck

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be crazy to give anyone credit before giving credit to God. I truly believe I was created to do exactly what in doing and some! Right now, as I’m in the middle of my journey, I still see God doing new things with my gift and my exposure. I’m just blessed to be a creative, one of the best things to be!
