Meet Ryan Hudson-Peralta | Designer, Speaker, & Disability Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Hudson-Peralta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting Equal Accessibility was a deeply personal decision for me. I was born without hands and unable to walk, so I’ve spent my entire life adapting to a world that wasn’t built with people like me in mind. Growing up, I faced countless challenges navigating spaces that weren’t designed for individuals with disabilities. Over time, I realized that accessibility needs to go beyond simply meeting legal requirements—it’s about creating spaces and experiences where everyone feels truly included and valued.
Honestly, the push to start the company came from my own experiences and those of my kids. Becoming a parent opened my eyes even more; there were so many times I felt frustrated when we’d go somewhere and realize the setup excluded families like mine. Those moments really drove me to take action—to make it easier for businesses to create environments that everyone, including those with disabilities, could genuinely enjoy. That’s when I knew it was time to start a company that goes beyond compliance and prioritizes compassion and true inclusivity.
I wanted Equal Accessibility to be about creating partnerships and helping companies look at accessibility as an opportunity to connect with people on a real level, not just as a checkbox.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Equal Accessibility is a consulting business I co-founded with my son, Noah, to help businesses go beyond the basics of accessibility and really focus on inclusivity. We specialize in creating solutions that not only meet ADA requirements but also make people feel seen and valued. We work with all kinds of businesses, from sports and music venues, hotels and restaurants to manufacturing facilities, and office spaces to help them make their spaces welcoming for everyone. What sets us apart is that we’re not just focused on compliance; we’re all about building a genuine connection between businesses and their customers by showing them how to prioritize accessibility with heart.
I’m most proud of the impact we’ve had, like when we worked with BraunAbility to ensure 100% accessible tours of their facilities and developed tools to support disabled employees. Those moments show us that our work truly makes a difference, and that’s what keeps us going. It wasn’t easy to get here, though. Building a business, especially in the accessibility space, came with its fair share of challenges. There’s still a lot of educating to be done to get people to see accessibility as more than just a requirement. But those challenges have taught me so much about resilience and the power of a clear vision.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of leading with empathy. Accessibility isn’t one-size-fits-all, so we have to listen and adapt to meet the unique needs of every business and customer. I want the world to know that Equal Accessibility exists to make inclusivity the standard, not just the goal. We’re here to create a world where everyone feels welcomed, no matter what their needs are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Most definitely taking them to Downtown Detroit, it’s where I take everyone that comes to visit. Campus Martius, the Riverwalk, maybe a few casinos, and dinner all downtown.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this to my parents who always told me that I could do anything I wanted in life and we’re always there for me to help push me over any speed bumps.
