Perspectives on work life balance

The Coronavirus has given many us an opportunity to pause and think about life, our purpose, and even the right work life balance. What’s your perspective and has it changed over time?

I have been doing photography for over 8 years now. I started this business in college, doing graduation photoshoots and couple photoshoots and it has been up and down over the years. Throughout grad school, the photography had to take a back seat. Once I graduated and started my full time career, I was able to start diving back into it. Work-life balance is something that I still struggle with from time to time. I don’t believe in a true “work-life balance” because life can hit you with random situations. However, from attending Cass Technical High School and Wayne County Community College District to the University of Michigan, my work-life balance has greatly improved. I did dual enrollment for free at my school, but I didn’t have any plans to go further in my education. When I started my business I found my passion and it generated revenue. Over time, my approach to work-life balance has evolved significantly. Early in my career, I focused heavily on work, often sacrificing personal time to ensure success. But as I’ve grown both personally and professionally, I’ve come to understand that achieving the right balance is not only about managing time but also about aligning your work with the lifestyle you want. Now, I see balance as creating a life where my work energizes me and supports the experiences and relationships that matter most. This shift has allowed me to be more intentional about setting boundaries and prioritizing the activities that enhance both my work and personal life.
